Now that September is here, I can’t help but think about autumn/fall. It’s one of my favorite times of the year: the weather is mild, there’s lots of cinnamon and nut-flavored goodies, I can break out my thick fuzzy socks, and I can start wearing jackets and cardigans again: I can wear long pants again and finally -finally!- I can stop sweating!
Oh yeah, and it also means looking ahead to Fall 2020’s anime season, which will kick off next month is t-minus 27 days and counting.
This year’s fall season is really, really good: there’s a lot of choice titles, many of which I’ve been waiting on for a while now. There’s also a lot of manga getting their due in the form of anime adaptations, which is doubly exciting!
Now… this post could get really… really… REALLY long, so for the sake of brevity, I’m just going to give some very brief, one sentenceish reasons for all the anime I hope/plan to watch.
More than likely, I’ll watch some of these for Anime Feminist: in fact, I fully expect that -any day now- I’ll be selecting a few series to seriously track for premiere reviews, season recs, and my own writing over the course of the next season.
(If hey, we’re lucky, I might even do some on-going twitter threads… but don’t get your hopes up: myself included.)
Now, without further adieu: let’s talk about what anime I’m planning on watching this Fall!
Anime
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (2020)
Reason: The new version has very charming art and looks like an interesting visual reboot to the anime side of the franchise: also, I’m planning on playing the Visual Novel for October since it’s spoopy.
Fly Me to the Moon (Tonikaku Kawaii)
Reason: Viz’s release of the English manga coincides with the anime dropping a month later, so… why not?
Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon (Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi)
Reason: Yashahime looks like a really interesting sequel to Inuyasha, a series that I’m quite fond of: plus, I need to know who Sesshomaru slept with.
The Day I Became a God (Kamisama ni Natta Hi)
Reason: Honestly, the cover art and premise just sound interesting.
Adachi & Shimamura (Adachi to Shimamura)
Reason: I’m just really into the idea of a slice-of-life shonen Yuri series that’s just knee-deep in super sapphic vibes.
Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina (Majo no Tabitabi)
Reason: I like the light novel and I want something to fill the Kino’s Journey shaped hole in my heart.
Assault Lily: Bouquet (Asaruto Riri BOUQUET)
Reason: Let’s be honest: this is because I like anything with magical girls, especially when they come in big, big groups.
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
Reason: There’s something funny about a bear suit being the strongest armor in a video game.
Iwa Kakeru!: Sport Climbing Girls (Iwa Kakeru!)
Reason: It gives me big Keijo vibes, especially since it’s girls doing a sport that’s not typical depicted as being for girls.
Dropout Idol Fruit Tart (Ochikobore Fruit Tart)
Reason: Idols.
Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle (Maojou de Oyasumi)
Reason: I really loved the manga, so naturally, I really wanted to see the anime.
Rail Romanesque
Reason: Curiosity, in large part because I’ve wanted to play the visual novel it draws on.
OVA – Movies
Burn the Witch
Reason: I read the one-shot and first two chapters on the Shonen Jump app and just really wanted more of Wing Bind and the world of Burn the Witch.
Our total comes to twelve new series and one movie: that’s a lot of media for the last few months of the year, isn’t it? But I think it’ll all work out: plus, it gives me things to look forward to. I think we all need a bit of organized, planned fun this year.
I don’t yet know what I’ll be covering professionally for Anime Feminist: I’m hoping I can at least try to snag Kamisama, Assault Lily, Iwa Kakeru, or Dropout Idol. If I can get one -or even two- of those titles, then I’ll be a happy camper with whatever else I pick up. Assumably, I’ll cover at most four: I don’t want to overwhelm myself, especially since I’m still job hunting and accliimating to being back in the states.
For now, it’s time for me to get back to work: even though it’s Friday, I’ve still got editing to do before I kick back for the weekend and focus on myself. Even though I’m between jobs, I still think it’s critical for me to take breaks and let my mind be at ease. You should to, dear reader: we all need a reprieve, especially in these hard times.
But for now, as always… see you next post!
